Facebook is organising an event for developers at the iDea Hub on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 4pm. The event will be a fireside chat with the Director of Product Partnerships at Facebook, Ime Archibong. At the chat, developers and tech innovators will learn how to grow their startups and engage wider audiences using Facebook’s Free Basicsprogram.
The Internet.org/Free Basics programme was launched in late 2013, and since then has gotten rolled out in developing countries across the world. It’s a partnership between Facebook and a few other companies to deliver online services to less developed countries for free in an attempt to bring more people online.
At first, Facebook handpicked what sites/services were available via the platform, but after an outcry from the pro-Net Neutrality public, they turned their project to a platform and opened up the walled garden to all developers who meet their criteria. The three-hour event on Tuesday will feature an information session to will answer whatever questions and misgivings developers may have.
