Chelsea star Pedro Rodriguez has expressed his
desire to return to the Camp Nou. The winger
only joined the blues last season but has now
decided he does not want to remain at the
club.
The winger who is currently in France with the
Spanish national team was found to be excess
to requirements at Barcelona and decided he
needed to leave to earn regular first team
football. But it hasn’t worked out the way he
wanted at Chelsea.
The Blues have had a disastrous campaign
finishing way below the champions league
places. Pedro did have a wonderful start to his
Chelsea career scoring on his debut against
West Brom. But since then it has not been a
smooth ride.
Pedro said he has already spoken to the
president Josep Maria Bartomeu about the
possibility of a return. Speaking to Bein sports
he said, “Hopefully [I can return to Barcelona], I
know it's difficult, I spoke with the president
when we saw each other at the Cup final and I
also spoke with all the people who love me
there.”
Not a great first season for Pedro in the EPL
Chelsea managed only 4 wins when Jose
Mourinho was in charge and he eventually got
the sack in December after losing to Leicester
City. Guus Hiddink was hired as his replacement
and Pedro did find a little bit of form towards
the end of last season.
Pedro made 27 appearances in all of the
2015/16 season scoring 7 times. Although
that isn’t a bad number you can tell he wasn’t a
regular under Mourinho or Hiddink. With Antonio
Conte now coming in, there are massive doubts
if he will even get a start depending on how the
manager wants to set his team up.
Pedro the solution to Barcelona’s bench
strength
Barcelona have enough firepower in their
starting XI but their lack of depth is what
concerns Luis Enrique the most. When they
were undergoing a bad run of form in the league
the manager never made too many
substitutions to change games at times
because he did not have the right players.
There were reports that Barcelona were trying
to sign Hatem ben Arfa and Alexandre
Lacazette but so far nothing has materialised.
Pedro would provide the perfect solution to the
Catalans’ problems but it remains to be seen if
he will be willing to play second fiddle.
