The Department of State Services is to establish a paramilitary school in Katsina State, saying that the Government Science Secondary School, Musawa, is the site for the new institution.
The state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Halimatu Idris, said this in Katsina on Wednesday evening while briefing journalists shortly after the 13th State Executive Council meeting, presided over by Governor Aminu Masari.
According to her, the state SEC had already given its approval to the establishment of the school which is expected to commence full operation early next year.
She said, "The DSS school is taking off as soon as possible. The State Executive Council has already given approval to its establishment. GSS, Musawa, will be the site for the new school. The GSS students are to be relocated to other schools. The DSS has a similar school at Abuja. The school is paramilitary in nature and it is just like the Airforce School while Katsina will benefit from the establishment of the new school which will have both junior and senior secondary school."
The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abdulkadir Zakka, also revealed that a committee would be set up to verify the actual number of contractual employees in the state civil service.
According to him, this is with a view to monitoring government expenses and bringing sanity to the state finances.
