The United Nations says South Sudan’s government forces executed civilians and also gang-raped women and girls during and after fighting last month.

This comes amid growing criticism of the warring parties by regional and world leaders.

The country descended into conflict in December 2013 after President Salva Kiir accused
deposed vice president Machar of plotting a coup.

The two rivals signed a peace agreement late last year, under which Machar was once again made vice president.

About 60,000 people have fled an outbreak of fighting between supporters of the two men in the past three weeks.
